The Woove has been a little bothered by the amount of emails we've received about our recent Matthew Shipp Trio review, especially since the mail has possibly been written by Mr. Shipp himself. We at the Woove would like to know if this mail is indeed coming from Mr. Shipp. So, if you truly are Matthew Shipp, prove it by answering one simple question. The Woove name should be familiar to you. When and what contact has been between Matthew Shipp and the Woove in the past, and specifics please. For our readers pleasure, the letters are reprinted here. Jared
yet something else to pass on to the as a jazz writer inadequate and
http://musicalbox.bloginky.com/2009/01/20/critics-pick-55/ jared pass on to rob woody hey idiot-I am scholing you-you should feel lucky to have an iconic geniues of the music actually teaching you this is a blog from the jazz critic from lexington herald newspaper he reviews me and keith jarrett together notice he calls me the most original voice of my generation- he also mentions that I am not afraid to show the spirit of my influences- he mentions that the head of first tune reflects the spirit of monk without in any way sounding derivative. you should feel lucky I am teaching you-you made a horrible mistake- imagine I am one of the major iconic figures and inovators in music in this period and some stupid ignorant snot nose punk piece of shit like yourself writes some shit about needing to chart your own course-well you stupid mothefucker I have already changed the whole course of jazz history the last 20 years.do your homework you stupid piece of shit.while don't you try to chart your own couse with your pathetic attempt at prose. thanks matthew shipp Its not a matter of if you dig it or not-I could care less-my place in history is secured-its a matter of an untrue statement about us being derivative-its not true-the premise of your review is 100 percent false-pure and simple- who the fuck are you to tell someone who is considered a major new innovator in jazz piano to chart their own course-especially considering ive completely done that and the whole jazz world has given me credit for that so don't write about things you know nothing about like jazz its funny that you would write the crap you did and I actually am the one cat who is the modern day equivalent of what monk was in his day except I have my own voice -100 percent of the time- and am that figure in todays world and language. That might seem like a really wack thing to say in an email but if you do a little research you would see its 100 percent true- so like I said I could not give a fuck if you like it or not or get it or not- just don't put 100 percent untruths about us being derivative when we are 100 percent originals. By the way even people that hate what I do in the jazz world admit the complete originality of it. so the assertions in your review are 100 percent wrong,-that's a fact-admit that and we can move on. I could go on and on and debunk every line in your review- I could keep sending you other reviews that would debunk every idea you state- so if you want to keep writing about jazz its not a matter of if you like something or not unless that is the only line of your review. If you stretch out and try to explain what is happening you have to be accurate- and you are not. thanks matthew shipp ps- just admit your premise that there is anything derivative is completely wrong- which it is by the way and that is a fact- you should do another piece for the woove where you admit that- and that you had a cognitive error where when you don't understand something you can only think of it in a category that you already know-ie-I don't understand what matt shipp does but I hear a couple rhythmic displacements so it must be just like monk because he uses a couple syncopations like that-so if I don't understand something I will just group it under a category I think I already know if you want to keep writing about jazz this could be a learning experience for you for I am 100 percent right and you are 100 percent in the wrong in this situation- again obviously you have a right to your likes and dislikes but if you try to break it down and you are wrong in your analysis, and wrong to the point you write untruths about someones work, watch out-if you humble yourself in this situation you might learn something And Finally Mr. Shipp's backup Subject: What people are still saying about matthew shipp trio''harmonic
