The second place winner in the poetry category.
Starry night absorbs all consciousness Vertical hilltop stands me on air Music from below falls unheard upon deafened ears My body begs to stand but my mind forbids it Head spinning I stumble to the bottom Feet sink knee-high into solid ground Thousands of dazed faces stare without looking Instigated panic smashes me down through the earth Green fingers grapple to hold me under Recovering from the blow The hand of the crisp mountain breeze pulls me to my feet Colors of the artificial rainbow dance and flicker Upon the backdrop of the night sky Synthetic explosions from above leave me in awe Is this pleasant or terrifying? Home is not far—only a galaxy away On the edge and yet still at peace Tomorrow reality returns on winding backroads But tonight the impossible will be possible. |
