Woove staff writer Colin Reef saw Big Gigantic with Chronicles of the Landsquid at Awful Arthur's. Big Gigantic, an electronic duo out of Boulder, Colorado, put on an impressive display of style and showmanship at Awful Arthur’s on Saturday, November 13th. DJ Dominic Lalli and drummer Jeremy Salken brought their original sound to the stage by fusing synth lines and saxophone leads, piled high on top of some of the hottest dance beats around. The productions are accompanied by an endless supply of hip-hop samples to create a hardcore club experience. Big Gigantic’s show revealed a sound completely their own and a scene familiar to many of today’s biggest live acts. Saturday’s show was nothing shy of the confident, in-your-face performance every Big Gigantic fan expects. Lalli’s jazzy saxophone riffs reminded the crowd that they were, in fact, still on planet Earth, while his spacey loops suggested something quite the opposite. The fans had little time to catch their breath between songs with Jeremy Salken’s drum beats continuing the previous groove. Big Gigantic delved slightly into the dub step scene and their performance showcased their unfailing confidence to embrace the wobble. The duo finished off their set with a mix of some popular Chiddy Bang samples. ![]() Staff writer Colin got to go backstage and meet the duo. Chronicles of the Landsquid, an electronic power trio that has shared the stage with such acts as Pretty Lights, Bassnectar, and The New Deal, preceded the show. Landsquid brought the crowd to the dance floor with liquid dance grooves, preparing the mood for the Big Gigantic’s total bass domination. The lineup astounded the audience with the powerful and uplifting musical experience in downtown Blacksburg. Big Gigantic will be nearby for a few more nights before heading to Riviera Theatre in Chicago, IL on their way east towards Soundlab in Buffalo, NY. The duo will appear on tour at small venues as well as major music festivals across America. A night of huge sound and jazzy saxophone is a unique treat for any live music fan at any venue; one must get out and experience this music duo’s wonder and originality. |
