Holy reviews, Batman! Eva Luton reviews Passion Pit's remix album.

To the ravers, techno club hoppers, and recreational LSD users: rejoice!  Passion Pit has released a seven track album of nothing but remixes of "Sleepyhead," from the album Chunk of Change (2008).  Passion Pit burst into the electronic scene with the whimsically catchy and wildly popular single "Sleepyhead," featured in a US Palm Pixi commercial.  In theory, the release of the "Sleepyhead" remixes should appeal to a wider market of music consumers, but I'm afraid that this album of WaWa, Grum, and Little Vampire mixes fails to extend its marketable reach.

British electroclash musician Grum kicks off the dance party with a seven minute, synthesized, club remix, followed by a seven minute dub remix.  More than double the original length of "Sleepyhead," Grum exhausts the song's charm, but it could work as a fast-paced, high-energy track in a Jazzercise class.

Wawa, the Polish duo of Vic and Bojan, nobly incorporate their expertise in house music with tracks four through six; all which sound similar to something you might hear during a Dance Dance Revolution game.  Unless you're ready to dust off the dance pad and choreograph your own steps to match the Wawa Remix and Dub tracks, these songs will not get much play-time.

The album ends with a four minute mix from Little Vampire.  My favorite song from the album, Little Vampire's remix stays the most true to the ground-breaking “Sleepyhead.”

By no means should you listen to the entire "Sleepyhead" remix compilation in one sitting, lest you want your brain to seep out of your ears from the repetition.  As is true with many songs, the original is the best version and there is no need to remix it.  "Sleepyhead" already stands as the perfect electro-pop dance song, so unless you've promised to bring some hot new house jams to your next highlighter party, I'd recommend saving your iTunes credits to spend on something more original.
