Happy Thursday!  No really Happy Thursday...

 Staff writer Jesse Tate lampoons the state of politics, science, and Steve Martin's latest buffoonery.

It almost doesn't seem fair for a review to be written about a show played for a student audience.  Especially an audience that has absolutely no idea how to attend a jazz performance.  Either way, I'm going to take a stab at the concert.

When I discovered Beirut in 2006, I thought I had found my calling in life: to listen to Beirut non-stop for the next decade. I bet you can imagine how excited I was for the “double feature” release of March of the Zapotec and Holland last week. Well, I'm glad it was a double feature. If it weren't for the second half of the album, I might've had to find a new vocation.

Our news director Camerian has had the privilege to set up a weekly segment with Staff Sergeant Joel Oser who is currently stationed in Camp Bucca in Southern Iraq.  Joel is a Virginia Tech student and grew up in Chesterfield, VA.

When I walked into The Lyric last Wednesday night I knew I was going to see one of the most anticipated films of the year.  Among a packed house, I took my seat in the balcony, and anxiously waited for Slumdog Millionaire to begin. 

Why does every new jazz pianist try to emulate Thelonius Monk?  I'm not kidding.  I don't get it.
