“This summer I was back home in Williamsburg, VA. It was mostly a summer of working and spending time with family.

I logged about 200 hours in Stardew Valley this summer. I was not on air this summer, unfortunately, but I've been keeping up with WUVT and the local W&M station.

My cohost Bridger Noles and I (both home for the summer) went to see Wednesday and American Football. I went to see an artist named Ovven, as well as Alison Krauss and Union Station. Lots of concerts this summer. I am looking forward to getting back into the routine of things and being back on air to play some great music.

“I had the immense pleasure of staying in Blacksburg and having my own show for the summer! The best feeling is pulling a random CD off the shelf and being surprised by how much you like the song.

Besides working in Blacksburg and doing my show, I’ve been watching a lot of TV, which includes Twin Peaks. I LOVEEE this show. I like to pretend I’m a mysterious detective in a small town who is cleansing the city of crime, and then I step into a diner, sip my coffee, and say, “That is a d*mn fine cup of coffee.”

On the topic of pretending, I also got to watch the Michael movie in theaters! I thought it was so amazing, I teared up. But not enough tears to wash the Michael Jackson makeup off my face.

This year I’ll be a senior, and since I only joined WUVT last semester, I’m really excited to make the most of it! If you’re thinking about it, then just do it—go to that event, join that club or staff or anything, because you will more than likely be glad that you did.

“The smaller catalog this summer pushed me to bring in my own personal CDs. It's a collection built slowly, almost exclusively from thrift store dollar bins. I have this tradition of picking up random CDs from whenever I travel. I stick to artists I've never heard of, typically those from dead record labels, self-releases, or albums with interesting cover art. They become the soundtrack to my road trips, and I'm instantly taken back to those memories upon later listening. Getting to play these on air is so intimate and naturally leads to storytelling.

I was introduced to Jim Croce while stopping at a hospice thrift near Shenandoah National Park; the same trip where I saw the Perseid meteor shower. I fell in love with Tammy Wynette, the true queen of country, while driving through a Pennsylvania snowstorm after a major forecast reroute to chase the solar eclipse. I discovered 808 State during my east coast road trip up to Acadia and Montreal, where my tent completely flooded and I had to drive hours through fog for a laundromat, all while being terrified by elk shrieks echoing through the pines.

These chance encounters and sentimental attachments are what I love about physical media. Sharing these parts of myself with listeners, especially any regulars calling in, is what I love about WUVT.”

“Hi!! I was on air for Finn’s happy hour for parts of the summer, and I had a blast! I shifted over to mostly digital tracks with the temporary studio setup and got to play a bunch of my favorite songs! I had some wonderful people call in, too, which was amazing (shoutout to our listeners who tuned in from their porches or on their commutes home)!!

I was mainly stuck on the internship grind for my summer, so getting the weekend breaks to DJ was amazing. I’m looking forward to getting more into my major-specific classes this semester, VT football (James Franklin PLEASE I need this), Panthers football (Bryce Young PLEASE I need this), seeing all my friends and making new ones, hopefully some more DJing, and helping out with some more concerts around campus"

“This summer I was located at home in the Philly suburbs! I was not on air, but I'm so excited to be back in the station, and I've been searching for some good music to play.

I went down the Jersey shore a few times, which is always the best, and spent as much time as possible with my family, friends, and girlfriend.

One cool thing I did this summer was start a phlebotomy training program, so I’m excited to continue that while back at school in between football games, WUVT shows, class, and movie nights!”

"My summer was awesome as awesome gets! I visited Japan, which was super cool!! It was very interesting comparing and contrasting all the differences between here and there. My most memorable experience from this trip was when I was trying to find live music in Osaka. I bounced around from local to local (in broken English and Japanese) asking if there were any venues in the area until I stumbled upon this one man that I recognized from the day prior, who pointed in the direction of an underground music bar called Hokage! All I can say is WOW (SUGOI! すごい !). I had such an amazing time.

Everyone thought it was so funny that I didn't speak any Japanese, so there was a lot of Google Translate and hand signs going around. The coolest part about it all is me getting thrown up in the air and crowd surfing!!! That one experience alone cemented my time in Japan as one of my favorite moments ever."
